Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the great up-date. Wow, I am so inspired by your words and stories already.
We will be praying for protection, strength, trust, and God’s wisdom as you set out to sail.
In Him,
Thje Supers’
Give ear to my words;O Lord, consider my sighing, Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice: in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm5:1-3

Jefferson…Just read on the Doulos News there’s a new ministry station onboard called their Coffee Cafe, where they set up at each port in an area after they disembark the stored land vehicles and equipment for the local building ministries. Sounds cool place to work and/or meet visitors to the ship or shipmates during your “free” time.
I noticed on the ship’s travel log that you are in Brisbane until 9-8-08, and then off to southern Australia. From your last email to us I trust you have made it all the way by now, and you have boarded the Doulos, met your cabin mates and others, decided upon your initial work assignment
and unpacked to settle into mission. Probably will take you a few weeks to get your sea legs, and then being on land will feel funny.
We got a skype microphone and look forward to our first phone call from you over the internet when you are ready.
Check out Romans 5:1-11. Pastor Bill Mitchell taught from these verses the last two weeks and personal obedience, group obedience (your OM church & fellowships), and sacrificial obedience as exemplified by what Jesus did. We can rejoice in our relationship with God through His saving grace, and respond to God : Speaking the truth in love (Eph 4:15); Serving (John 13:13-17); Sacrifice/Suffering (Romans 5:3-5); Giving generously and with gratitude(Zech 4:6-7).
Anxious to hear from you and see more picture updates. Let us know when you get your warm clothes package too.
Love you son,
Dad

Jeff…I want to see a picture of those roaches , and let me know if they tickle you at night while you’re trying to sleep. Are they bigger than our Florida palmetto bugs ?
Reading about your growing and trusting relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ is encouraging to me, son, as I know you will remain safe in His grip. Luke 15:17 & 18.
I bet you’ll enjoy setting sail soon too, and all the other “firsts” in your ministry experiences on board the Doulos and getting to know the 200 experienced shipmates.
Love ya, Dad.

Dear Son, I laughed, I cried, I hooted, I cheered. I was there with you as I read your new blog accounts. Did you have to mention the cockroaches?! I asked Our Father for a word for you – Psalm 3:3-6. It begins: “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head…..” It sounds like he has done that already. I miss being able to pick up the phone and chat but I am so happy that you are there in God’s perfect will. I Love you, Jeff

Hey Jeff: It is really great reading about the reality of your commitment to the Lord, whether it is the good, the frustration or the ugly (roaches)! I can tell by your writing that the beauty and the blessing out way the frustration of wanting to get there and get things done for the Lord. Of course, the “get there and get it done” never really comes, because we are eternal in the Lord, and our work and praise will be forever and in everything. Thank you God.
Tommy and I just visited San Francisco, CA and as beautiful as parts are…maybe your ship could stop there someday! Truthfully, we had a wonderful time and prayerfully shed the light of Christ wherever we went.
I am studying for two final exams in my Moody College Education or at least I should be, but I’m writing you right now instead. I have exams on “Spiritual Leadership” and Spiritual Community”. I love the schooling and the tests! This is how I see you right now as you travel the world and learn your way for the Lord, so that during the tests you are prepared.
God bless you and your bunk mates and I look forward to more entries.

Jefferson…Just saw on the ship’s tracking you have landed again, now in East Timor after what seems to have been quite a long journey from Perth. How did this voyage go with the weather and everyone else on board ? Enjoyed your pictures of the whales waving to the Doulos as it passed them, what a gift from God to break-up the monotony of the horizon.Bears are in first place again, crazy; but Kyle Orton is injured so now we get the unpredictable Rex for 3-4 weeks so it should remain interesting. Elections are tomorrow, so pray for God’s mercies on the USA.
Excited to hear how your new experiences on the Asian continent are. Proud of you son!!! Dad

Hey brotha’! thanks for keeping us/me up-to-date. It is great to hear your stories and reflections. I would have loved bushwhacking it with you on that jungle trek. Sounds Awesome. And all these experiences, it seems, are turning your heart MORE toward Christ. That is great to know, and an encouragement to me to look for the Lord’s hand and guidance through the grand and minute experiences of each day. Your descriptions make me feel like I’m right along side on the journey. Wish I was. And I want to pray more that, like you, He will grow in me a compassion for the hurting and forgotten. Keep safe my friend. And don’t eat the durian.

Jeff, It has been an honor to follow your experiences since you have left UCF (as have I, that’s another story that I’ll share with you later). Your strenght, courage, and beliefs will carry you to where ever you care to go in your life. The stories of your incredible times will stay with you for your entire life. Thank you for allowing me to share in your travels and experiences.
Best to you always,

Hi Jeff
One in which you have peace. I’m happy to read that.
Merry Christmas! I loved seeing you last month and enjoyed the stories you told too. I have told a few of your ship-shenanigans to many. They are amazed!
And so now our Great and Glorious God is taking you on another adventure
My morning devotional was this.
I AM KING OF KINGS and Lord of lords, dwelling in dazzling bright Light! I am also your Shepherd, Companion and Friend- the one who never let’s go of your hand. Worship Me in My holy Majesty; Come close to Me and rest in My presence. You need Me both as God and as Man. Only my incarnation on that first, long-ago Christmas could fulfill your neediness. Since I went to such extreme measures to save you from your sins, you can be assured that I will graciously give you all you need.
Nurture well your trust in Me as Savior, Lord and Friend. I have held back nothing in My provision for you. I have even deigned to live within you! Rejoice in all that I have done for you, and My Light will shine through you into the world.
So…. continue on and go shine that Light. You are dearly loved by us!
Mary Ellen
